Teleclasses: One-on-Ones

Esther Derby and I are conducting a series of teleclasses. The first one is about one-on-ones. The initial teleclass is May 28, 2006 11am EST. The follow-up coaching classes will be on Tuesdays, June 3, 10, 17. We've blocked out 11am, 12noon, and 1pm as coaching times. If those classes fill, we'll determine alternative times with you.

One-one-One Telelclass Description:

Do you know the obstacles preventing your staff from making progress? Want to help your technical staff succeed at work they want to do? Are you able to write performance evaluations that you and your staff appreciate? One-on-one are the most effective mechanism for understanding your group’s progress, understanding how well they are doing their work, where they might need help and what obstacles are blocking them. One-on-ones are a key management tool that will help you be an even better manager.

Here’s how the teleclass works. In the first session, Esther and Johanna will cover the nuts-and-bolts of conducting effective one-on-one meetings and explore some of the issues and questions you have about effective one-on-one meetings.

The next three sessions are devoted to helping you build your skills in conducting effective one-on-ones through practice with feedback. Each participant will identify areas where they want to improve and we’ll help you develop plans to address those areas. In each coaching session you’ll report on your results and challenges and we’ll give you some strategies and tactical actions to work with those challenges.

Session 1 (no fee, limited attendance):

Lay out a structure for conducting effective one-on-one meeting with your staff

For those of you who choose to continue with small-group coaching, we’ll have you do some homework to assess your satisfaction with your one-on-ones now. Then each participant will prepare an action plan for the coaching classes:

  1. Identify which actions you want to take immediately
  2. Identify longer-term actions
  3. Write own 3-5 actions you will take over the next week to improve your one-on-ones.

We request that all attendees prepare for session one by completing this pre-work:

  1. What do you want to get from your one-on-ones?
  2. What’s working well now?
  3. What do you want to change?
  4. What skills do you need to develop to change how you do one-on-ones?

The first teleclass session is limited to 99 participants and is free. The three follow on coaching sessions will be organized into groups of no more than 8 people, and will be available for $150 for each participant.

If you’d like to sign up, email or call Johanna or Esther. You can sign up for the first teleclass for free. The three coaching sessions require an advance payment of $150. We take Visa, MasterCard, and personal checks. We do not take purchase orders.

When you sign up, we’ll send you pre-work and information on how to call in. We hope you can join us!
