Workshop Objective: In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use principles first, to create, support, and improve your successful distributed agile team.
Workshop Overview: You’ll learn the eight principles of successful distributed agile teams and how to use them to personalize your team’s success. Learn how to:
- How the eight principles change the practices.
- How to use cycle time to see how well your team can collaborate and communicate.
- Visualize your kind of team and the potential collaboration and communications traps.
- Several ways to collaborate across time and space.
- How to develop and iterate on your working agreements.
- How several common practices can change (standups, retros, story refinement, backlog planning) for the better.
- How to help your leaders support your distributed agile teams.
Each participant will receive an electronic copy of From Chaos to Successful Distributed Agile Teams.
Target Audience: Teams who are distributed, attempting to work in a hybrid way, who want to use the best of agile and lean.
Prerequisites: Prework: measure your cycle time.
Workshop Duration: A virtual workshop: 10 days of 2 hours each session.
Workshop Outline:
- Session 1: Introductions and how the principles matter for your team. Your team’s cycle time. Any other show and tell.
- Session 2: How to assess your hours of overlap and your team’s cycle time. What you can do about insufficient hours of overlap.
- Session 3: Team types and how to improve collaboration. Includes the two hybrid team types.
- Session 4: Communication, collaboration and how to use which kinds of communication tools to help your team succeed.
- Session 5: How to assess your team’s culture and what you can do if you need a different culture.
- Session 6: Working agreements, values, and how to start a distributed agile project with a project charter.
- Session 7: Retrospectives and other agile practices and how they change when the team is in various places.
- Session 8: Integrate new people onto your team.
- Session 9: Leadership responsibilities
- Session 10: Summary and wrapup.
