2023.03 Short Fiction

The experiment continues. My weekly 60 seconds of some writing in progress (WIP). This one is from a short story.

The Transcript:

I’m Johanna Rothman, and this is 60 Seconds of Johanna’s WIP for October 12, 2023, where I read an excerpt of just a minute of some writing in progress.

This excerpt is from a short story, currently titled “Boston Drivers”:

Cracking her gum in time to the windshield wipers, Leah Thomas held her hands above the steering wheel. Frustrated, she watched how the small autonomous SUV struggled, shifting from left to right and back again. All to maintain its progress as it found its way through the narrow and winding Chelsea, Massachusetts streets.

At just past four in the morning, the mid-February snow fell silently. But the snow tires—thank goodness—crunched over the previous twelve hours of snow, ice, and who knew what else on the roads. Leah liked babysitting autonomous vehicles in sun, rain, and even the dead of night.

She was way too nervous now, especially with new firmware and new software doing the driving in a nor’easter.
