Writing Secret 19: Stuck? Draw a Picture to Explain to Yourself

Child's simple drawing of a rainbowI'm trying to finish my product value team series. I started what I thought was the next-to-last post. I'm still writing, almost 1200 words later. (1200 words!!)

I'm stuck.

Clearly not with the words. I got a lot of words. But with the ideas. I'm having trouble expressing what I mean.

That's when I realized it was time for a picture.

Trying to draw that picture helped me realize I do not yet have the words for these concepts. So I took a walk. And that's when I realized I'm trying to say that the product value team is—itself—a small program team.

Well. I now have the concept. But I have other words to write today, so I'm going to put that post away as I chew on the ideas a little more. I bet I have more insights after I take more walks and draw more pictures.

This is not project block. It's logic block. I've been writing to learn what I mean, and all the words are not enough. I'm stuck. That's when I draw a picture. If I can't draw what I'm thinking, how can anyone else possibly understand it?
