Now

This is the “now” page for Johanna Rothman. I'm doing this because I like a lot of what Derek Sivers is doing for the Now pages.

Here's what I'm doing now, current as of May 2024:

I'm working on my own store for all my audiobooks, ebooks, and print books. That's work!!

Nonfiction Writing

  • I'm writing the speaking book. I only have a working title: Better Public Speaking: Content Marketing to Educate, Entertain, and Inspire Your Audience to Act. I'm sure that will change!
  • I'm starting to research in preparation for the strategy and continual planning book(s). I'm not sure if that is two books or one book. That's why I'm reading and researching.
  • See my Managing Product Development blog and the Pragmatic Manager newsletter for my most recent thoughts about all supposedly “work” things.
  • My Create an Adaptable Life blog and newsletter is actually what most people need for any kind of transformation. I wish I had integrated it here, but I did not. Oh well.

I'm thinking about publishing all the Create an Adaptable Life questions of the week and the newsletters as yearly volumes. If anyone reads this and has an opinion, I would love to hear it.

Fiction Writing

My “plan” (which is much more of an aspiration) is to write four novellas this year. However, the length intimidates me. What's that supposedly agile saying? If it hurts, keep doing it. That's why it's a “plan.”

We will see if I manage to do something with my ridiculously long list of finished short stories. The “plan” is to make collections of five stories each and market them via Kickstarter.

All my fiction writing takes a back seat to my nonfiction and my clients, so all of my fiction “plans” are suspect. Yes, these are really options when I am ready to exercise them.

Online Workshops

I've been working on building out the self-study workshops on teachable. These are available as self-study:

I'm not sure I'm doing these “right” because too few people have bought them.

The quarterly writing workshop with my feedback is here: Writing Workshop 1: Free Your Inner Writer & Sell Your Nonfiction Ideas. Look there for the dates.

2023 Finished Books

I finished these two books in 2023:

While that's “past,” I'm like the rest of humanity. I don't give myself enough credit for what I finished. So I'm taking credit on the Now page.
