Another week, another edition of the experiment of 60 Seconds of Johanna's WIP.
The transcript:
I’m Johanna Rothman, and this is 60 Seconds of Johanna’s WIP for January 11, 2024, where I read an excerpt of just a minute of some writing in progress.
This excerpt is from a science fiction mystery short story.
Liza shone the flashlight down the steering wheel column. But she saw something different. Instead of a switch that was flush with the column that required a screwdriver, she saw a manual black switch that only required a fingertip to turn on or off.
“You got this?” she asked.
“I do. That switch is in the correct location. However, the switch is not the correct geometry or the correct aspect ratio.”
“Who was the last person to perform maintenance on this vehicle?” Liza asked.
There was just a momentary pause. “The victim has an in-house maintenance garage. When I access the online records, a Carlos Muñoz was the last person to perform maintenance on the vehicle.”
“When was that?”
“Two days ago.”
Liza straightened up. “That’s quite interesting. Find this Carlos person and set up a call with him.”
“No can do, boss.”
“Why not?”
“He’s dead. He was reported dead of an overdose yesterday.”
“That’s way too much of a coincidence,” Liza said.
