Are you trying to change people's minds? Data can help. But data is not enough. We all need stories to make that human connection.
That's the point of the podcast I recorded with Sam Taggart: Storytelling is Problem Solving. (That's the link to the podcast for audio listening.) That page also has a link to the video.
Human connection is a big part of my new book, Effective Public Speaking: How to Use Content Marketing with Stories to Show Your Value. The stories we tell matter. And how we tell them matters, too.
Here's the story of how I got onto Sam's podcast:
- I saw a post on the socials from a previous podcast.
- The podcast name, The LabView Experiment, aligns with my principles of frequent experimentation.
- And, because I'm so shy and retiring, I looked up the contact page and contacted Sam.
Was I nervous he would reject me? I was uncertain, not actually nervous. People reject me all the time. (I consult and write, which means people don't always take my proposals or agree with my writing. Rejection does not bother me.)
But I'm a different guest than most of Sam's guests. I figured it was worth a shot to see if I could expand my audience. And it was—Sam and I had a great time telling each other stories from our careers. I suspect you will enjoy those stories, too.
That's the power of being a podcast guest—it increases your discoverability.
