And finally,

  • Teams work frantically on the next initiative to save the company. Why are they frantic? These teams started late, because the previous product effort took “too long” to finish. Now, the company needs this new product so they don’t go out of business.

All of these problems are the result of too much, too detailed, and too extensive planning. The planning prevents the organization from considering other options. Why? Because the organization invested so much time in all that planning. And now that they have these old plans, they are reluctant to throw those plans away.
