2026.27 Implicit Feedback Loops

network of feedback loopsI’m back with a podcast this week! Yes, it’s been a while. (Chemo interrupts everything.)

This is from the Continual Planning book. Enjoy! (If you only see a black box in the Podcast section, please click through to the post itself. Some RSS readers do not render the frame properly.)

The Podcast:

The Transcript:

This is 60 Seconds of Writing in Public with Johanna Rothman for October 30 2026, where I read an excerpt of just a minute of some writing in progress.

My appendix cancer treatment has affected my writing time, which is why you have not seen or heard from me in a couple of months. I am making no promises as to when you will see the next installment of Writing in Public.

This is from the Continual Planning book.

Faster delivery depends on two more, mostly hidden, implicit, feedback loops.

The first implicit feedback loop is the team’s interaction with the product strategy. Every time the team delivers a single running, tested, feature, the product leader can examine the users’ reactions to that feature. Does the product strategy still hold? Or, does this finished feature now challenge the original hypothesis for this product?

The second implicit feedback loop is how the product strategy interacts with the corporate strategy. Every product serves part of the corporate strategy. And if the world changes a lot, as it has as I write this book, the corporate strategy needs to change, too.

External changes force corporate strategy changes. Those strategy changes require product strategy changes. In turn, every time the product strategy changes, the teams need to change what they do—and possibly how they work.
