  1. In my experience, running a forum is a huge time commitment for very little benefit.

    Forums work when a critical mass of discussion is available in one spot, usually from different groups. A single-site forum never meets that requirement.

    You are better off with even a fairly lame forum implementation at a popular site, for example the LinkedIn discussion groups.

    Note: I ran 50+ internal newsgroups at Hewlett-Packard in the 80’s and 90’s, and also ran a product forum for Ultraseek.
